This is actually not a Birdcage but instead an earlier 300S. The birdcage is distinctive because it has much higher haunches over its fenders. It had a smaller four cylinder engine so the front bodywork was much lower. The 300S is based around 250F mechanicals and has to fit that big six under the bonnet. The 300S would be followed by the 350S and 450S. Whereas the Birdcage was a part of the Tipo 61 - Tipo 65 series cars. All Tipo 61-63 bodies were done NY Superleggera.
Fun side fact, Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits is a longtime owner and racer of a 300S.
